Mary Murimi earned her bachelor's degree from Mundelein College in Chicago, her master's degree from Eastern Illinois University, and her doctorate from Iowa State University. She worked as a consultant for long-term facilities and as a WIC dietitian for two years before joining Louisiana Tech University's College of Applied and Natural Sciences.

Dr. Murimi is an Associate Professor of Nutrition and a tenured faculty member in the School of Human Ecology. She has over 50 abstracts/proceedings/journal publications. Her research projects address aspects of obesity and related chronic diseases in both school and community settings.

In 2006, Dr. Murimi was honored with two awards: the College of Applied and Natural Sciences Scholarly Activity Award and the Friend of Dubach High School Award for Contributions to Health and Education.

In addition to being a Society for Nutrition Education member, Dr. Murimi is a member of the American Dietetic Association and a member of the Community-Campus Partnership organization.

Prior to becoming an Associate Editor for the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, Dr. Murimi served on the Journal's Board of Editors, and as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, the Journal of School Health, and Appetite.

Mary is married to Sammy Murimi, a founder and director of Share International, a Christian mission agency. Sammy and Mary have four children. Being a "soccer mom" and hiking Louisiana's parks are her weekend activities.
