Judy Sheeshka completed her undergraduate education at the University of British Columbia, Canada, a dietetic internship at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, and her graduate work at the University of Guelph, where she's been a faculty member since 1991. She teaches undergraduate courses in introductory nutrition, food security, and nutrition education, and a graduate course in community nutrition. The focus of her research is nutrition policy, and recent studies have included food security monitoring, consumer use and understanding of Canada's Food Guide, food advertising to children, and the effect of nutrition information on consumer choices in fast food restaurants.
For the past 10 years, Dr. Sheeshka has also published in the area of the potential chemical risks and health benefits of consuming fish. She is currently appointed to the International Joint Commission of the Great Lakes, Science Advisory Board's Health Professionals Task Force.
Before becoming an Associate Editor of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, Dr. Sheeshka was a member of the Editorial Board and a long-time reviewer. She also served as an Associate Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Health Promotion for four years.
Judy lives in Guelph, in southern Ontario. She is active in dog therapy, visiting retirement and nursing homes with her Shelties.
