      Undergraduate research experiences (UREs) provide opportunities for students to implement the scientific process in real-world settings.

      Benefits of undergraduate research experiences.
      This implementation often moves beyond scientific investigation to the dissemination of results—both to academic and lay audiences. The investigative and experiential components of UREs, as well as the scientific communication exercises, are valuable for developing soft skills, including problem solving, critical thinking, and communication.
