Community Nutrition in Action

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored extreme health disparities and implications of the social determinants of health on many communities across the United States. Now more than ever, we are in dire need of competent, well-trained, curious, empathetic, and responsive community nutrition professionals. Community Nutrition in Action, 8th edition is the most updated version of Dr. Marie Boyle's community nutrition textbook. The book is organized, as it has been in previous editions, into three primary sections: 1) Community Nutritionists in Action: Working in the Community; 2) Community Nutritionists in Action: Nutrition Programs and Services; 3) Community Nutritionists in Action: Planning Nutrition Interventions. New features of this 8th edition are clearly delineated in the preface, which is particularly helpful for students who, for financial reasons, may need to purchase/rent an earlier edition of the book. Highlights of this 8th edition update include featuring the social-ecological model, expanded coverage of cultural competence, additional information on environmental influences in nutrition behavior (eg, US food systems), and updated guidelines such as infant feeding and Institute of Medicine obesity prevention guidance.
