Guidelines for Sponsored Supplements

The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB) will consider publication of supplements that are scientifically valid and of interest to our readers. Acceptance of such supplements, sponsored by an organization, institution, or company, is at the discretion of the JNEB Editor-in-Chief (EIC) and the Executive Director of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior (SNEB), similar to the JNEB policies for advertising. Such sponsorship of supplements will be considered as long as the following guidelines are adhered to and there is no third-party attempt to influence the scientific content of submitted manuscripts.

If a sponsor is deemed appropriate and wishes to sponsor a supplement, the topic must first be mutually agreed upon by the sponsor and EIC. The EIC will meet with the journal’s special issues subcommittee to vet the topic(s). If sponsor wishes to suggest a Guest Editor, possible people are discussed by sponsor and EIC. The EIC makes final decision on Guest Editor selection. Once selected, Elsevier and JNEB receives COI statements.

If necessary, the EIC will arrange for a call for papers. If the sponsor has a collection of manuscripts to be considered, or research being conducted with intent to publish, there will not be a call for papers. However, all papers will be subjected to the journal’s peer-review process.

All fees are negotiated with the publisher, Elsevier, and a contract and/or letter of intent must be completed and signed before the peer review process begins.
